Hi, my name is Ty McNary.

Growing up in the Albuquerque metropolitan area, I developed a deep appreciation for the landscapes and communities that make New Mexico unique. The desert sunsets, open skies, and diverse cultures here have shaped both my perspective and my creative work.

My interest in photography began in high school with film photography, learning the fundamentals in the darkroom before eventually transitioning to digital. What started as a passion for landscapes gradually evolved into portraiture. I found that photography allowed me to connect with people—learning their stories, where they come from, and where they hope to go in the future.

After graduating from the University of New Mexico in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Chemistry, I began pursuing a career in the mental health field while continuing to grow as a photographer. I am currently a Master of Social Work (MSW) student and will be graduating in May, with a focus on trauma-informed work with adolescents. My background in psychology and trauma-informed practice has shaped the way I approach photography: with empathy, patience, and an emphasis on helping people feel comfortable and authentically themselves in front of the camera.

Over the years, I have developed a photography and retouching style that reflects both my artistic interests and my appreciation for genuine human connection.

Outside of photography and school, I enjoy the little things in life—cold winter weather, a fresh cup of coffee, and Albuquerque sunsets. I would love the opportunity to get to know you and your story.
