Somos Unidos.

Though my time shooting for New Mexico United was short-lived for the season, it was an experience like no other. I had the pleasure of getting to know their creative team, David Young, Eric Lovato, Juan Aguerrevere, Jules Myers, Jacob Williams, and Jay Scribe. These amazing people gave me the opportunity to shine and photograph something that I have never been able to experience.

Coming from a portrait photographer standpoint, I was able to expand the knowledge that I have already gained through photography and create gorgeous images for the team, the fans, and myself.

Learning a New Style

The first thing that was going through my head before ever shooting the United Game was getting into the mindset of photographing sports rather than portraits. I had a general idea of what I expected but putting it into action was harder than I could ever imagine. Coming from shooting on my 85mm f/1.2 to a 300mm f/2.8 was a big change for myself, keeping the subject in frame and moving with them was something I had to learn.

I loved learning from others as well as just experimenting with what I captured over the 4 games that I had shot. Something that came naturally to myself was portraits, which I took tons of especially with the fan interactions, which were some of my favorite captures as it showed the willlingness and dedication after each game to the fans who support them, to interact with them for 15-20 minutes after each home game, which was amazing to see and get to experience.

Over the next few games, I was able to hone in on certain things that I wanted to capture, such as fans entering into the stadium, fans after a goal with the smoke bombs, as well as amazing portraits and action shots that most people don't get to witness on the field.
